SOMMARY

The position holder assumes several key responsibilities, including assessing rehabilitation needs, managing rehabilitation files (documentation, communication, payments), creating and monitoring rehabilitation plans, coordinating stakeholders for the prompt resolution of disability cases, supporting analysts, and negotiating lump-sum settlements.


The consultant must know the rehabilitation firms and have an extensive network in Ontario. Frequent travel within Ontario is required to meet clients or partners. Functional French is necessary.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the analyst and/or coordinator to determine the needs, potential, and resulting appropriateness of a rehabilitation referral
  • Takes responsibility for fully managing files transferred to rehabilitation
  • Establishes, follows closely, and guides to completion realistic, cost-effective rehabilitation plans
  • Selects, hires, and develops business relationships with service and care providers
  • Creates rehabilitation mandates and assumes the responsibilities and expenses they incur
  • Works in partnership and discusses regularly with the various actors involved in the file
  • Coordinates various stakeholders and their involvement to ensure quick, safe, and cost-effective resolution of disability
  • Ensures continuous communication and provides advice and support to analysts in their disability files
  • Conducts negotiations with insured individuals and reinsurers for lump-sum settlements
  • Manages approximately 30 rehabilitation files at a time


QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or significant experience in a field relevant to rehabilitation
  • Knowledge of insurance industry best practices and standards in Ontario
  • Valid driver’s licence (mandatory)
  • Experience in disability management (asset)
  • Specialization in mediation, conflict resolution, and/or rehabilitation (asset)
  • Experience as a rehabilitation consultant at an insurer or a firm (could be an asset)
  • Functional French, written and spoken

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Be mobile and able to travel in own vehicle for in-person meetings with insured individuals and/or employers and possibly some care providers
  • Know the rehabilitation firms and have an extensive network in Ontario
  • Be able to use IT equipment independently

    Claims

    Our team actively manages disability claims: first by determining eligibility according to the terms of the insurance contract and then by deploying proactive action plans to enable the insured to return to work as quickly and safely as possible. We work with both individual insurance and group coverage provided by an employer or group. The analysts work in collaboration with medical consultants, including a psychiatrist, physiotherapy and occupational therapy consultants, as well as in-house rehabilitation consultants.
